iLASIK & wavefront technology

iLASIK is only avaliable at our LASIK Center!

iLASIK is a new state of the art laser treatment that cuts the LASIK corneal flap by using a femtosecond laser. Normal LASIK treatments use a mechanical device called a microkeratome which uses a blade to produce the LASIK flap. This "No Blade" procedure produces a flap that is much more precise in depth, is cleaner, more accurate and is thinner. This results in many benefits to the LASIK patient.

IntraLase Femtosecond and Wavefront (Combined)

Wavefront and IntraLase Femtosecond combined treatment is a customised treatment with aims to improve the sharpness of vision over and above what can be achieved with glasses. It replaces 'the one treatment fits all' with a procedure that is tailored to the precise optics of the eye. Whilst standard laser eye treatment (without Wavefront guidance) gives very high quality results for the majority of patients, many peoples' eyes are not 'standard'.

Iris recognition

The Nidek OPD is very precise in locking onto the eye to be able to digitally map tiny sections of the cornea and then instruct the laser to target the same area to remove any tiny imperfections. In this way the laser is accurately given instructions to laser the intended area on the cornea.

Custom LASIK offers the following advantages:

• Greater chance of achieving 20/20 vision • Greater chance of achieving better than 20/20 vision • Reduced chance of losing best corrected vision • Reduced chance of losing visual quality or contrast sensitivity • Reduced chance of night-vision disturbances and glare • Potential also exists for custom LASIK to treat those people who have lost best-corrected vision from any refractive surgery

The VISX STAR S4 Excimer Laser System

The VISX Star4 laser is famous for its dependability and performance and is used by thousands of doctors worldwide. Patients who choose LASIK with the STAR 4 will experience a distinct procedure that is completely custom tailored to match his or her vision needs.

WaveScan technology captures unique imperfections in each individual's vision that could not have been measured before. This new level of measurement provides 25-times more precision than measurements using standard methods for glasses and contact lenses. WaveScan technology produces a detailed map of the eye – much like a fingerprint, no two are alike and translates this information into a set of CustomVue treatment instructions for the laser. WaveScan transfers these digital treatment instructions to the laser, providing a new level of precision and accuracy.

With the CustomVue procedure, no two "prescriptions" are identical. This precise level of measurement and treatment can enable individuals to achieve the full potential of their vision.
